Hip Hop routine to Ne-Yo song

This routine was performed to the song Mad by Ne-Yo on the show, So You Think You Can Dance. I enjoyed watching this routine because I am used to seeing hip-hop dances being performed to songs with an upbeat tempo. It was interesting to see how these dancers were able to take steps that normally would have been performed fast, into slow motion. Dancing to such a slow song allowed these dancers to show off their control and precision in their steps. Not only did these two perfect the steps, but were able to use all levels of the stage. By adding lifts and performing movements on the ground, the routine became more visually appealing. It was also apparent that these dancers were adding their emotions and using each other to perform a story to the audience and judges. This routine definitely captivated my emotions!

I tend to prefer a more "freestyle" type of dancing, however this performance caught my eye. I really enjoyed the performers ability to tell the story of the song through dance. Their ability to control their space while interacting with each other on a very technical level was impressive. The dances linking with the song was powerful and could not fully exist outside of this context.

Lashae Howard- I really enjoyed this performance. I like how the dancers told a story, which made the dance even more appealing. I think it's great when dancers feed off of each other, and it is very evident that the dancers fed off of each other's energy. I agree, dancing to slower music involves intricate movements and this shows the dancers' true ability.

This was a very interesting performance for me to watch since I have a background in classical ballet. It is obvious that the choreographer and dancers are using ballet elements but are still making them work for the clear hip hop style. The slow and more elegant style of hip hop dance is not seen as often but offers more of a challenge since the steps and movements are far more precise.

I must agree. It is nice to see that it is possible to have a Hip Hop dancing to a slow song. It is very refreshing actually. It shows you that if you have a great choreographer you can dance to any music in any style.

OMG!!! How did I miss this performance?!! I love dances like these where the style of dance doesn't neccesarily "fit" the tempo or type of music its performed to. The choreography told a story...facial expressions enhances the moves and the lyrics and most importantly you can tell they were in character because their movements were in so in sync with each other that their emotions fed off each other. I surely felt something. Who was the choreographer of this number? Bravo Bravo!!- Sade

This performance was great. There's something about it that caught my eye and it's hard to pinpoint what it is exactly. I think it might be the strength in all of their movements. Even when they're only moving minutely, they have the ability to grab the audience's focus and maintain it. I also think they showed excellent examples of using positive and negative space. They were spot on with all of their choreography and there was an intense chemistry between the two that seemed to really draw the audience in. Overall, a great job interacting and performing with each other.

I loved this video. It captured my attention from the beginning. The dancers did a wonderful job of doing body isolations and illustrating the lyrics of the song. Their movements were creative from beginning to end. The beginning and the conclusion were particularly unique.
