Hip-Hop Legend Mr. Wiggles

This video stars Mr. Wiggles in a performance in France. Here, he is seen performing popping and locking for the majority of the dance. Mr. Wiggles is a Hip-Hop legend and is part of the "Rock Steady Crew". He started out in the Bronx as a battler, and then soon followed on to the main stages. Graffiti, Breaking, B-Boying, Poppin, Lockin are just some of his talents.

In this video, I found his body coordination absolutely stunning and all of his moves were in sync with the music and adapted accordingly. He performs a few moves that I find very interesting, such as the c-walk and tutt or in some cases, tutting. From what I know and can see, tutting refers to the ancient Egyptian art. These poses are usually made geometrically, at right angles.

Its really amazing how he's chewing his gum throughout the performance. That's kind of like his way of showing off his hip-hop attitude.

It seems that Mr. Wiggles took popping and locking to the next level! I am also impressed by how popping and locking, which was first popular in the United States, spread to France and has became popular enough to have an American dancer perform in their country. This means that the French citizens have gained respect for the dancer and dance itself. Not only were his movements crisp but were perfectly coordinated with the sound effects at the beginning of the video clip. Although this may spark a debate, I felt that his robotic movements at the beginning of the routine should not be considered dancing. For me, dancing should incorporate emotions and have some sort of flow to the steps. True, his performance was very interesting and entertaining to watch, but it seemed as if the first half was more acting than dancing. By the second half of the routine, after he took a little pause, I felt that is where he truly started to dance because of the better flow in his movements and his smooth transition between steps.
A major difference between the routine I posted and this video was the way in which the dancers utilized their space. Mr. Wiggles seemed to confine his movements utilizing only a small portion of the stage. The dancers in my video utilized the whole stage. For Mr. Wiggles this was acceptable for his style of dance. However, if the two dancers in my video clips performed in only a small portion of the stage, the performance will lose its dramatic aspect and become less visually appealing.
